Helping Users Stay on Top of Bills Through Thoughtful Branding & UX

Overview

We were engaged to create the end-to-end design and brand identity for a new financial wellness product aimed at helping users pay bills on time and stay financially organized. Our team was responsible for everything from branding and UX wireframes to design systems and developer-ready files, building a cohesive and scalable product from the ground up.

Goals
  • Develop a brand that feels trustworthy, modern, and accessible

  • Design a product experience that empowers users to manage bill payments with clarity and ease

  • Build a scalable design system in Figma that ensures consistency across platforms

  • Enable seamless collaboration between design and development teams

Collaborators
  • UX Designers

  • Product Strategists

  • Client Stakeholders

  • Developers (early involvement)

My Role

As the sole visual designer and system builder, I led the branding, UI design, UX enhancements, and platform migration from the first stakeholder workshop to the handoff-ready Figma libraries.

Timeline
  • Design Phase: Active

  • Development had been paused due to banking integration issues

  • Beta version launched

The Challenge

Business Need
  • Launch a new financial product that builds trust and delivers value by helping users stay current on their bills

  • Align visual and UX design with financial compliance and tech infrastructure needs

User Need
  • Users often miss payments due to scattered bills and lack of visibility

  • They need a clear, intuitive interface that guides them through upcoming bills and payment schedules

Problem to Solve

How might we build a compelling brand and digital product that supports financial responsibility and simplifies bill management?

Design & Execution

  • Facilitated a stakeholder discovery session to align on values and positioning

  • Created multiple mood boards reflecting visual directions such as calm, secure, and empowering

  • Finalized branding that balanced approachability with financial credibility

UI Design & UX Enhancements
  • Applied the approved branding elements (colors, typography, iconography) to UX wireframes

  • Recommended the inclusion of illustrations to support storytelling, making the product feel more engaging and supportive

  • Collaborated with the UX team and received positive client feedback on the enhanced direction

Sketch to Figma Migration
  • Midway through the project, I led the complete migration from Sketch to Figma

  • Rebuilt all components and screens while restructuring our component and brand libraries for better maintainability

  • Created linked design libraries to ensure design consistency and scalability across the product

Design System
  • Established a structured design system in Figma, separating core brand assets from reusable UI components

  • Ensured all components were documented and implementation-ready for developers

Stakeholder Engagement
  • Met biweekly with stakeholders to show progress and get feedback.

Results
  • All UX and UI designs were fully approved by the client and internal teams
